Vote!

I didn't win Curt's painting competition, I had little hope about that. But now I may have a chance (like all the contestants) in winning the people's choice award or the challenger's choice. The challenger's choice award is the best entry according to the contestants. And the people's choice is the best entry, according to you, fellow readers. You just have to go there, browse through the 400+ posts full of eye candy, and then simply send him in the comments your choices. Easy.

Here are some of my entries/ Voici quelques-unes de mes entrees.

Sex, Blood and Sand...

Or maybe not, well, maybe not sex... But you never know. The ones I am about to show had a reputation. Ladies often visited them, and sometimes bought their sweat as aphrodisiacs... Right. If I don't shower for a day, I don't think I'll attract anyone, maybe some flies ( I know they like me, I had a few of them around me during my last hike.... no comment please). Anyway, back to the minis (ha ha) and let me present you, ladies' boys! The gladiators!

In Art de la guerre, you can have two such units. To create a dynamic/Hollywood effect, I only painted 14 different gladiators, instead of 16. I also did some conversions, opening some hands, cutting some swords, putting spears... For example, the gladiator jumping from the shield is a Corvus Belli Legionary, whose head was cut off, replaced by another one from Museum. And the one supporting him was originally an Essex bow skirmisher. I cut his weapon off and put a shield, opened his hand and put a spear, cut off the quiver and put a sword handle instead. And his head went off too, replaced by the legionary one ;) All the shiels were hand-painted.

In addition, I also painted 8 slingers, you know, easy job.

THe painting comp is now finished, and I ended up at the 19th position out of 47. Not bad, but my objective of  1000 points was not acheived, having only painted a bit more than 780 points. Bah at least I painted some stuff. Thanks again Curt for having managed such a competition. Count me in for next year.

How to get rid of those ronin

Hi everyone. Sorry for the lack of post this week. I've either been busy working or taking care of my daughter. The poor child has chicken pox.  I still manage to paint a bit for Curt's painting challenge, and here is one of my last entry: the ronin.
They're from Black hat miniatures and were easy to paint (pheww). First, the red one is for Curt. It was the condition to enter the comp.

Next, two more ronin. I had bought a pack of three, so I painted them all. Now the thing is, I don't know what to do with them. If someone has a (decent) proposition, I'm all hears.

More gladiators: almost there

I've been quite productive, and my gladiators are almost finished. Hmmm, I think I shouldn't be that happy, because now I have to paint the shields. Yes, they will hand-painted, all of them. I've also sent my new entry to Curt, so expect more painted stuff quite soon. And I've also prepped more minis for my Spartacus project.

On their way-Gladiators

Just a quickie today, sorry about that. I'm trying to paint as fast/ as much as possible to get some extra points for the challenge. I'd like to stay in the top 15. So, a quick pic about what I'm doing: the gladiators, with a few conversions ;)

Slaves on fire

Gracious me... You're on fire today
You expected them! you have waited for them! And now here they are! For your own entertainment and pleasure, here come.... the slaves!

Curt published my new entry, so now you can see it on my blog. My first unit, the armed peasants/ desperate slaves... Any names you want to call them.

I need 12 bases of peasant levies in my Art de la guerre army, and, if I go for the FOG version, at least 12 of them too... So, it's quite the perfect match.

If I had wanted to play fair, I would have needed too many figures for this unit. So I've cheated a bit. First, you can see the 6 bases of armed levies. They're a mix from Corvus belli and Xyston:

And then, the part where I cheated: I wanted a Kubrick/ Hollywood feel for my army, so I've opted for fiery rollers. They're made from pipe cleaners and some metallic stuff whose name I've forgotten. I've also added some desperate/dead Romans too.

Enjoy

And the final pic, maybe the last vision for many Roman legionaries ;)

We... Have a winner, my friends.... and Lucy Lawless

I'm afraid I will have to stop my little game. Someone... Ok, ?I'll be charitable, two people found the right answer yesterday, and consequently found my new project. So, three cheers for Apa and Natholeon.

First, the clues of the day. What is the link between them:

Rhhaaaa, Lucy Lawless

Karl Liebknecht (not so sexy)

Yup, you found it: Spartacus. That's right, my next project (I already started it), is a Spartacus army, first for Art de la guerre, and then, when I'll get enough minis, I'll upgrade it to a FOG standard.

So, what were the answers, then? Quelles etaient donc les reponses?

Well, the first one, Carl Orff: Tamsin was onto something when she said Arthur. And Orff's mother was Paula Koestler. Arthur Koestler. Get it? Ok, it was hard, but then it was the first clue.
Premier indice, Carl Orff.

The second one: the vipera ammodytis and red wine. I agreed on Italy, but I could have also accepted Sparta, and...Thracia, land of the Snakes and Dyonisos ;)

Third one: my native region and some culinary specialties: I wanted you to find oysters and "cagouilles", the local... snails. Right, a famous quote with oysters and snails. Anyone?

Fourth clue: the common link between Pompey, Caesar and Nicias was indeed Crassus. Pompey, Caesar and him had formed the triumvirate, and his life is compared to Nicias' in Plutarch.

So, that's is people. Thanks for playing. I sure had fun finding some clues for you to play with. Watch this space for (I hope) some eye candy.

Voila.
